The streak problem
A streak feels great on day nine. On day ten you miss once, the number drops back to zero, and the app turns into a scoreboard of the day you blew it.
A lot of people quit right there. Not because they stopped caring. Because opening the app now costs something. It shows you a failure every time you look.
Notifications make it worse. The app that was supposed to calm your life becomes one more thing tapping you on the shoulder.
What NynLyf does instead
- No streaks. Nothing counts days in a row. There is no number to lose.
- No notifications. NynLyf never pings you. For appointments, that's what your calendar is for, and NynLyf shows your calendar right on the screen.
- Skipped days skip. Yesterday's list does not roll into today's guilt. At midnight the day is saved exactly as it was, and tomorrow starts clean.
- No red badges. A task that's due floats to the top of its tile with a small tag. That's the whole alarm.
- One gentle cue. A black cat named Nyn naps on the part of your life you've ignored the longest. He doesn't meow. You notice him when you look.
Isn't a planner with no reminders a bad idea?
For some things, yes. If the laundry has to move at four, set a phone timer. NynLyf is not trying to be an alarm clock.
It's trying to be the one place you look. When a screen never scolds you, you keep coming back to it. And the screen you keep coming back to is the one that works.
What you see instead of a streak
Your whole life on one screen: nine tiles, three priorities for today on top, and what's coming up on your calendar underneath. Tap back to any day to see what it looked like. No score, no judgment.
Questions
Does NynLyf remind me when something is due?
Due tasks move to the top of their tile with a small date tag, and today's count shows on the tile. Nothing gets pushed to your lock screen.
What happens if I skip a whole week?
Nothing. Your tiles are right where you left them. Nyn has probably found a new place to nap.
Is there really no notification setting anywhere?
There really isn't. We left it out on purpose.
